Thanks for supporting the Winamp community for over 15 years. And here I am still using winamp as my podcatcher because I refuse to use itunes. Winamp, you and your llamas will be missed.

Anyone have any memories to share? I still use Winamp to this day and have since it was pre-v1.0. Tens upon tens of thousands of hours on it. I think the last crash I experienced was in 2005.

It's far and away the best media player ever created. Doesn't have a gods awful UI that takes up the whole screen like Foobar or VLC and isn't the bloated, unintuitive hot garbage that is iTunes. It's remained focused on doing one thing extremely well and it does.

I never understood why AOL bought them and it's sad to see Winamp sinking with the rest of that horribly managed ship. I really hope Reaper's selling well enough that Frankel could just buy it back but I'm not counting on it. For those interested,.

Given how AOL is, I suspect they'd rather sit on a dead product than do that but you never know. I really hope Frankel's digging through his couch cushions right now. I still use it for playback but I never really dug into the media library functions so I keep iTunes running in the background primarily for the store and podcast management. I'm really sad to see development halt (again, I think there was a stretch a couple years back where they didn't do any updates for a couple of years).

Even though the download page will be gone I'll probably keep using it (although iTunes 10/11 fixed a lot of the performance issues on PC) and I'm sure the downloads will still be available on download sites like FileHippo for years to come. As for why AOL bought them. Let's just put it this way, it was during the tech bubble of 1999. You didn't need to have a good reason to buy tech companies then. Boogle wrote: foobar =>godawful UI? Just customize it to what you want.
